Jalandhar, July 11
The Indian Oil Punjab State Sub-Junior Badminton Ranking Tournament, which was organised at Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium here, concluded on Wednesday.
Rakesh Khanna, vice president, Punjab Badminton Association (PBA), and Anupam Kumaria were the chief guest and the guest of honour for the prize distribution ceremony. District Badminton Association (DBA) secretary Ritin Khanna said 400 players from 20 districts participated in the tournament. He said 10 events were held in the under-15 and under-17 age group categories.
In all, 471 matches were played during four days of the tournament. Special arrangements for food and drinks were made by the association for players who participated in the tournament. Attractive prizes were also distributed among winners by Olympian Dipankar Academy. PBA secretary Anupam Kumariya congratulated the organisers for the conducting the tournament successfully.
The final results of the tournament are: In the under-15 girls’ singles category, Mahveesh Kaur of Gurdaspur defeated Amelia Bhakhu of Ludhiana 21-10, 21-15 while Aaradhya Singh and Inayat Gulati stood third. In under-17 boys’ singles category, Nilesh Seth (Amritsar) defeated Samarth Bhardwaj of Jalandhar 21-18, 21-12. Ishan and Geetanshu Sharma stood third. In the under-17 girls’ singles category, Gursimrat Kaur (Ludhiana) defeated Manmeet Kaur of Gurdaspur 21-14, 21-12. Mahvish Kaur and Amiya Sachdeva stood third. In the boys’ doubles under-15 category, the pair of Viren Seth and Zorawar Singh (Jalandhar) defeated Aarav Porwal and Kaivalya Sood 21-13, 21-15. Similarly, in the boys’ singles under-15 category, Viraj Sharma (Jalandhar) defeated Wazir Singh (Ludhiana) 21-16, 21-12.
In the under-15 mixed doubles, the pair of Viraj Sharma and Dishika were victorious while Shiven Dhingra and Ananya Nijhawan came second. In the girls under-15 doubles category, Amiya Sachdev and Mahvish Kaur defeated Ananya Nijhawan and Dishika. In the boys under-17 doubles category, the pair of Akhil Arora and Jagsher Singh Khanguda stood first while Kritagya Arora and Sahib stood second. In the girls’ doubles under -17 category, the pair of Manmeet Kaur (Gurdaspur) and Seeza (Sangrur) defeated Aarushi Mehta and Samaira Arora. In the under-17 mixed doubles, Samarth Bhardwaj and Seeza defeated Vansh Batra and Manmeet Kaur.
