41,072 MT paddy procured in Kapurthala

₹84.12 crore already transferred into farmers' bank accounts

Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal on Friday said the procurement of paddy in the district has crossed 41,072 metric tonnes so far in the ongoing season against the government’s target of 8,20,017 metric tonnes. He added that the pace of arrivals in the local grain markets is expected to rise in the coming days.

The DC said Markfed has made the highest purchase with 18,364 MT, followed by Pungrain with 12,645 MT, Punsup with 6,929 MT, and the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation with 2,831 MT. To ensure smooth operations, the government has made arrangements in mandis for drinking water, electricity, shade, and transport facilities, while senior officers are conducting regular inspections.

Panchal emphasised that farmers are being paid promptly, with ₹84.12 crore already transferred directly into their bank accounts. He also urged farmers to bring only dry paddy to the mandis to avoid difficulties during procurement. Additionally, he appealed to harvest paddy between 10 am and 6 pm so that the crop meets the prescribed moisture standards.
