45 challaned, 6 bikes impounded for violations by traffic cops

The Commissionerate Police, Jalandhar, has intensified its campaign against eve-teasing and traffic violations by conducting a special drive at sensitive locations in the city. The operations were carried out between February 21 and February 25 under the leadership of ACP North Rishabh Bhola and ACP Central Nirmal Singh, as part of the department's efforts to ensure public safety and curb harassment.

The drive focused on areas with high footfall of women and students, including Government Girls Senior Secondary School on Ladowali Road and HMV College. The operation was conducted between 12pm and 3pm, with teams from Division No. 2 and Division No. 3 police stations, the Emergency Response System (ERS) and the Field Media Team (FMT) deploying for vehicle checks.

A total of 325 vehicles were inspected during the drive, resulting in 45 challans being issued for various traffic violations. The police also impounded six motorcycles for serious infractions. Among the violations, 11 cases of triple riding were reported, while nine riders were found without helmets. Four motorcycles with modified silencers, known for creating noise pollution, were seized. Additionally, seven vehicles without number plates, four cases of underage driving and four violations of black-tinted film use were identified.

“The primary objective of the drive was to create a safe and secure environment, particularly for women and girls commuting through these areas. The police aimed to send a strong message that harassment and traffic violations will not be tolerated”, police officials said, emphasising that such initiatives were essential in maintaining public order and fostering a sense of security among residents.

The Commissionerate Police reiterated their commitment to public safety, announcing that similar drives would be conducted regularly. The department urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement and report any suspicious activities to help create a safer environment for everyone.
