Talwara: A 47-year-old resident of Amroh village in Talwara block committed suicide due to lack of work because of the lockdown. Police station in-charge Talwara Bhushan Sekhari said deceased’s wife Pinki told the police that her husband Sonu used to play band during jagrans. He had no work due to the lockdown, due to which he was upset. On Friday night, after having dinner, he went to his room and slept, while she slept in another room. When she went to wake him in the morning, the door was locked. When she looked through the window, Sonu’s body was hanging from a ceiling fan. The Talwara police have recorded proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC and handed over the body to the family after post-mortem. OC

Action against farmers flayed

Jalandhar: The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) condemned the police action against the Nawanshahr farmers who were protesting against privatisation of electricity and the three ordinances approved by the Central Cabinet. Union leaders Joginder Singh Ugrahan and Sukhdev Singh Kokri Kalan in a joint statement demanded a stop to police raids on farm leaders and withdrawal of false cases registered against them. They said 13 farmer groups would hold protest from July 20 to 26. TNS
