In a major crackdown against drugs and crime, the police on Saturday registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after seizing more than 5.5 kilograms of poppy husk from a Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) bus.

SSP Gaurav Toora while giving details said here today that the seizure was made during morning checking at the Phagwara bus stand when the police intercepted a PRTC bus (bearing registration number PB08 EW 8971). On searching, the police recovered two bags containing approximately 5.5 kg of poppy husk from the bus.

The bus driver, Ranjit Singh, a resident of Goraya, and conductor Gurwinder Singh, a resident of Dina Nagar, were arrested on the spot. The police also impounded the bus as part of the investigation. A case was registered at the city police station in this connection.
