5 cars reduced to ashes
Jalandhar, January 12
Five cars, including a BMW, three Audis and an Indica, caught fire at a car bazaar on the Jalandhar-Amritsar National Highway here this morning.
The incident took place around 7 am when 20 cars were parked at Trehan Car Bazaar. Other cars were shifted to a safer place. The dealer has reportedly suffered a loss of over Rs 50 lakh in the incident.
Eyewitnesses said an Audi car caught fire, which spread to four other cars within a few minutes. Commuters and passersby informed the owner of the car bazaar and the fire brigade about the incident. They also tried to douse the flames by splashing water on the vehicles, but to no avail.
The Fire Department took nearly two hours to douse the flames. Teams from the Division No. 1 police station also reached the spot. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
