5 times councillor, Mayor Jagdish Raja faces defeat in MC elections
Five times councillor and Mayor Jagdish Raja (70) couldn’t win municipal corporation (MC) elections this time. It seems that Raja, who was Mayor during the last MC’s tenure, failed to impress voters in his ward. After remaining in the Congress for 33 years, he recently gave a shocker to everyone when he joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
He was defeated by BJP’s Rajiv Dhingra. Speaking about his debacle, he said, “I accept people’s decision. They must have thought about it and may not have liked my work. That’s why this is the result in the civic body elections. But, no matter what, I will remain with them.”
About his future in the party, he said now time would tell. Sources said he had some friction with other members of the Congress after which he quit the party.
Earlier, Jagdish Raja had said, “I was impressed by the policies of the AAP and the work the party has been doing after forming government in the state. So, I decided to join the AAP.”
Raja had further shared that even if he remained Mayor last time, he was contesting for the post of councillor because he didn’t want to sit at home and get sick. “I want to keep on working for the people no matter what. And I know that this is how I will remain healthy,” he said.
When Raja’s tenure as mayor had ended, he said, “I had a better time when I was a councillor. After getting elected for the post of Mayor I had to face several compulsions.” Raja faced opposition from his party councillors too, which he said always hurt him.
