More than 500 students were awarded graduate and post-graduate degrees during the annual convocation held at Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women here on Saturday.

Dr Arvind, Professor (Physics), IISER, Mohali, and former Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala; and Jatinder Pannu, journalist, social activist and editor of Nawan Zamana, were the chief guests at the event.

The convocation began with the academic procession, led by the Principal Navjot and the chief guests. The Principal delivered the welcome address and talked about the rich heritage of the college.

She also presented the annual report highlighting the academic achievements of the students and the research contributions of the faculty.

She emphasised on students excelling in their lives and careers, and taking forward the ideals that they had learnt at the college.

Pannu appreciated the contribution of the college in shaping futures. He exhorted students to be aware of their social surroundings.

Addressing the gathering, Prof Arvind said Punjab was a rich state and residents should be proud of it. “We should not leave it, and, instead, should enjoy all the bounties offered by our state,” he added.

He praised the college, its heritage, and wished success to all students who received their degrees at the convocation. Joint Secretary Jaspal Singh Waraich and other members of the Governing Council were also present at the event. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Waraich.
