Hoshiarpur: The district police arrested six persons and seized a large quantity of narcotics from their possession. According to information, cops at the Garhdiwala police station arrested Kulwinder Singh of Khurda village and seized 13 bottles of liquor from him. Whereas the Tanda police recovered 252 gm of intoxicating powder from the residents of Chandigarh Colony, Raji and Raj Kumar, alias Vicky. Similarly, the Talwara police arrested Sukhwinder Singh, alias Banni, a resident of Coolian Bala, and seized 40 gm of intoxicating powder from him. In another case, the Hajipur police arrested two persons and seized 22 gm of narcotic powder from them. The accused have been identified as Jatinder Kumar and Tade Katwal, both residents of Kamaldeep. Separate cases have been registered against the accused in the respective police stations. OC

Three booked in dowry cases

Hoshiarpur: The police booked three persons in two cases of dowry harassment. In the first case, Simranjeet Kaur, daughter of Amrik Singh, and resident of Hejman village, told the police that she was married to Sukhwinder Singh of Kohje in Jalandhar. She said after marriage her husband allegedly started harassing her demanding more dowry. Seeing that the demand was not fulfilled, the accused harassed her and threw her out of the house. In another case, Jasveer of Mankdheri village, in a complaint to the police said that she was married to Attowal resident Hardeep Singh. She told that after marriage her husband and brother-in-law Gurcharan Singh allegedly harassed her and threw her out of the house due to non-fulfillment of dowry demands. After registering the cases, the police have started further action. OC

Agent booked for Rs 47,000 ‘fraud’

Hoshiarpur: Cops at the Bullowal police station have booked a travel agent for allegedly duping a man of Rs 47,000 on the pretext of sending him abroad. According to information, Harbhajan Ram, a resident of Nasrala, lodged a complaint with the police that Massaniya Sekhwan took Rs 47,000 from him to send him to Qatar. The complainant said neither the travel agent sent him abroad nor returned his money. After investigation, the police have registered a case against the accused. OC

Woman drug smuggler held

Phagwara: The police on Wednesday raided the house of a woman at mohalla Rungrra in Nurmahal and seized 6-gm heroin, 290 intoxicant tablets and drug money of Rs 1,41,340 from her possession. SP(D) Sarabjit Singh Bahia said the arrested drug smuggler was identified as Sandeep Kaur. He said acting on a tip-off, the police party headed by DSP Nakodar Harjinder Singh raided the house and recovered the intoxicants and drugs money. A case under Section 21B, 22B of the IPC and the NDPS Act has been registered against the woman drugs smuggler, who will be produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate tomorrow. Several others disclosures are being expected from the accused during further interrogation, the SP said. oc

1 arrested with stolen iron rods

Phagwara: On the complaint of Rampur Sunrra village resident Kashmiri Lal, the Rawalpindi police arrested a man and recovered six iron roads from him on Tuesday. The arrested suspect has been identified as Dilabar Masih, a resident of Rampur Sunrra village.The suspect was nabbed by the complainant and five other persons when he was stealing iron rods from the village crematorium. He was later handed over to the police. A case under Section 379 of the IPC has been registered against the suspect. oc

Man held with illicit liquor

Phagwara: The police arrested a man and seized 14 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession on Tuesday. The accused was identified as Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Palahai Gate locality in Phagwara. A case under the Excise Act has been registered against the accused, the police said.
