Hoshiarpur: The Garhdiwala police have arrested two smugglers and recovered 6 kg of poppy husk from the truck, in which they were travellng, from a ‘naka’. The Garhdiwala police stopped a truck passing through a ‘naka’ and recovered 6-kg poppy husk during the search. The accused have been identified as Saravan Singh, alias Sodhi, and Jagdev Singh, alias Sodhi, of Chohko. The police have started an investigation in this regard by taking the truck into the possession. A case under the NDPS Act has been lodged against the suspects. OC
Thieves steal Rs57K, gold from house
Hoshiarpur: Unidentified thieves stole gold ornaments and Rs57,000 in cash from a house in Alowal village here on Friday night. Alowal resident Neeraj Saini lodged a complaint with the police that unidentified persons stole Rs57,000 and gold jewellery from his house. The police have registered a case. OC
Missing man’s body found
Hoshiarpur: The city police recovered the body of a 56-year-old person Mahesh Kumar, of Narayan Nagar, from Kandi Canal, near Narayan Nagar on Saturday. He was working as farmer with Amritjot Singh. On July 23, after having dinner, Mahesh went to sleep on the tubewell of the said farmer which was located near the canal. When Mahesh Kumar did not return the next day, Amritjot Singh searched for him but to no avail. Police said Mahesh was addicted to alcohol and it is feared that he may have fallen into the canal. OC
