600 cadets join10-day NCC training camp at DAV varsity

A 10-day, day-and-night Combined Annual Training Camp-34 of the 2 Punjab NCC Battalion began at DAV University here on Tuesday.

A total of 600 NCC cadets from 45 educational institutions are participating in the camp. Among them, 200 girl cadets will also receive military training. The camp is being organised under the direction of NCC Group Commander, Brig Ajay Tewari.

Camp Commander Col Vinod Joshi said that the battalion team would work round the clock for the all-round development of the cadets. The daily routine of the cadets will begin at 3 am and continue until 10 pm. PT, yoga and various exercises will be conducted at 5 am. Foot drill and weapon drill will be held after breakfast.

Col Joshi said that the camp aims to teach cadets about meals, training and living together, fostering a sense of unity among them. He further stated that training would be provided on 36 topics, including opening and assembling of weapons, firing, map reading, fieldcraft, tent pitching, movement of troops with signals, section battle drill and more. Cadets will also be trained in ways to protect themselves from cybercrime. Demonstrations and training will be conducted by the State SDRF to prepare cadets to assist others during disasters and to serve in civil defence as responsible citizens.

Numerous competitions have been scheduled to boost the confidence and skills of the cadets. Basketball, volleyball, kho-kho and tug-of-war events are planned to foster team spirit. Debate and extempore competitions have also been arranged to enhance speech and leadership abilities.

The 600 cadets have been divided into four companies, each named after a Param Vir Chakra awardee from Punjab, in a bid to make them aware of their glorious history and dedication to the nation.

Col Vinod Joshi expressed heartfelt gratitude to Vice-Chancellor Dr Manoj Kumar, NCC in-charge Lieut Dr Ahmed Hussain, and other staff of DAV University, who have provided all facilities free of cost for the military training and bright future of the 600 NCC cadets. He further stated that the purpose of the training across various subjects is also to prepare cadets for NCC-related examinations. Two Army officers, six associate NCC officers and 25 military instructors have been deployed to conduct the rigorous training. The camp will conclude on 19 June.
