GNA University, Phagwara, on Saturday organised a convocation for its 2025 batches, wherein 639 students were awarded degrees.
Those who received degrees included pass-outs of 16 PhD, 100 postgraduate and 523 undergraduate courses in diverse disciplines such as engineering, business, hospitality, computational science, natural sciences, English, animation and multimedia, healthcare, and physical education and sports.
As many as 36 students received gold medals, 29 silver, and 24 bronze.
Harjinder Singh Cheema, chairman, Cheema Boilers Limited, was the chief guest at the event, while Dr VK Rattan was the guest of honour.
Chancellor Gurdeep Singh Sihra, pro-chancellor Jasleen Sihra, vice-chancellor Hemant Sharma, deputy registrar Kunal Bains, dean (academics) Monika Hanspal, dean (research and development) Neeraj Puri and deputy controller (examination) Anil Pandit were among the attendees of the event.
The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by rendition of the Saraswati Vandana.
Kamini Verma and Parneet Kaur served as masters of ceremony at the event.
The convocation procession began with felicitating the chief guest and the guest of honour. The VC delivered a welcome address, and presented the annual report of the university. He congratulated the young achievers, saying they had taken on challenges with a positive attitude, and were rewarded for it.
Cheema congratulated the graduates, exhorting them to always give 100 per cent efforts in life.
“Age should not be considered a barrier in your personal and professional growth,” he said, addressing the gathering.
He ended his speech with the words: “It is your day, and so is every day.”
GNA University conferred on Cheema an honorary doctorate in recognition of his contributions to society, industry, and the nation.
The varsity awarded ‘The Governor’s Medal’ to Anisha (BSc chemistry) for her merit, character, and achievement in academic and co-curricular activities.
The chancellor exhorted the graduates to disseminate their knowledge worldwide.
The deputy registrar delivered a vote of thanks, marking the end of the ceremony. He extended his best wishes to the graduates.
He emphasised the importance of honesty and dedication in pursuing aspirations, as well as maintaining a clear vision in life.
He lauded the contributions of the GNA Group to industry and education, expressing optimism that these would create possibilities for local youth to receive excellent education, equipping them with the skills needed to secure jobs worldwide
