7 Covid cases in Hoshiarpur

Hoshiarpur: In a fresh spike, seven new Covid cases were reported from the district on Wednesday. A total of 527 samples were taken and 3,187 reports were awaited. With the fresh infections, the tally of cases rose to 40,868. There are 23 active cases in the district and the toll stands at 1,096. OC

Pension adalat in Nawanshahr

Nawanshahr: As many as 29 pensioners of the state government on Wednesday took part in the pension adalat organised by the district administration at the administrative complex. Presiding over the adalat, Assistant Commissioner (Grievances)-cum-District Revenue Officer Ajit Pal Singh said the administration had held pension adalat to address the problems being faced by the pensioners of the state government. He said 29 cases were received during the proceedings of the pension adalat on Wednesday and all cases were forwarded to the parent departments of the pensioners. He also asked the officers to ensure a constant follow up of these cases so that the pensioners could be facilitated at the earliest. TNS

Woman arrested with 5-gm heroin

Jalandhar: The rural police arrested a woman and seized 5 grams of heroin from her possession. The accused has been identified as Jaswinder Kaur alias Jassi, a resident of Pasla village, Nurmahal. A case under Sections 61, 21, 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against her at Nurmahal police station. The accused was arrested near Pasla village overpass during a routine checking last evening. The accused was reportedly a habitual offender as seven cases under the NDPS Act were already registered against her in various police stations. TNS

One held with 25 cases of liquor

Jalandhar: The police team of Rama Mandi police station on Wednesday seized 25 cases of branded liquor and nabbed one smuggler. The accused has been identified as Amritpal Singh, a resident of Ghakhla village in Jalandhar. As per the police, they received a tip-off that two smugglers coming from Chugitti chowk side would be crossing Nangalshama chowk to deliver the consignment to their customers. Acting on the information, the police team laid a naka near Nangalshama chowk and apprehended Amritpal Singh. A Honda Amaze bearing number PB10BE2100 was seized. A case under Sections 61of the Excise Act has been registered against the accused.

Aerial firing: probe underway

Hoshiarpur: A complaint has been made at Hariana police station against an agent (arthiya) for being involved in a dispute regarding the bidding point. Jatinder Pal, a resident of Saraja Bazar in Hariana, told the police that he does the business of brokerage in the name of Jatinder Traders in mandi of Kang Mai village. According to him, a few days ago, an arthiya living near him had a dispute with him about the bidding point. He alleged that on the night of April 17, at 9.30pm, the said accused came there with some of his other associates. He alleged that he threatened him after an altercation with him and also fired three aerial shots. In this regard, Inspector Gurinderjit Singh, in-charge of Hariana Police Station, said appropriate action would be taken after probe. OC

Liquor seized, four arrested

Hoshiarpur: The district police have arrested four smugglers and recovered a huge quantity of liquor from them. According to the information, the police of Sadar police station recovered 24 bottles of liquor from Ram Murti and Mangal Ram, both residents of Lalgarh. The police of Model Town arrested Nitish Bhargav, a resident of Kandhala Jattan and recovered 24 bottles of liquor from him while Raghu, a resident of Dasuya was held recovering 12 bottles from him. Separate cases under the Excise Act have been registered against the accused. OC

Three arrested for betting

Hoshiarpur: The district police have arrested three accused who were betting at different places and recovered cash and betting slips from them. According to the information, two accused Naresh Kumar, a resident of Laxmi Market and Uma Shankar, a resident of Kirti Nagar, were arrested recovering cash and slips of betting from them. The police of Mehtiana have arrested Naresh Kumar, a resident of Mustapur and recovered cash and betting slips worth Rs 3,650 from him. Separate cases have been registered against the accused. OC

Four held for illegal mining

Hoshiarpur: The district police have arrested four accused for illegal mining at different places and registered cases against them. The police of Chabbewal have arrested Parsota resident Vishnu, on the charge of illegal mining and took possession of his sand-laden trolley. Whereas the police of Hariana police station have arrested Gurpal Singh, a resident of Bassi Aladdin and Gurnam Singh, a resident of Shergarh and Surjeet Singh, a resident of Una district on the charge of illegal mining in Kason village and took possession of their two tippers and one JCB. Two arrested on theft charge

Hoshiarpur: Police of Bullowal have registered a case against Manpreet alias Monu and Gurpreet Singh, both residents of Nasrala for stealing two motors from a factory. The police have taken the action on the complaint of Sunil Kumar, a resident of Jalandhar district. Both the accused have been arrested. OC
