7 women felicitated at IMA event
The Women Doctor Wing of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Jalandhar, celebrated International Women’s Day with fervour on Thursday evening, honouring women from various walks of life for their outstanding contributions to society.
Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur presided over the event as the chief guest, while Dr Jasmine Kaur Dahiya, vice-president of Punjab Medical Council, Dr Vikas Chhabra, president of IMA, Punjab, and Dr Kiran Chhabra, first lady of the IMA, attended as guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, IMA Jalandhar president Dr MS Bhutani highlighted the indispensable role of women in society and appreciated the role of iconic figures like Mother Teresa, Indira Nooyi, Kalpana Chawla and Kiran Bedi. He emphasised that women's empowerment was essential for the progress of society.
Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur lauded the efforts of the IMA, Jalandhar, and its Women Doctor Wing for their initiatives towards women's empowerment. She encouraged women to stand united and face challenges with confidence.
The event also felicitated seven distinguished women for their achievements, including Gagan Samra, ultra-runner, Gagandeep Kaur, Deputy Director of Doordarshan News, Dr Seema Pasricha, Dr Amandeep Kaur, Dr Sapna Batra and Poonam Kalra.
The celebration featured games, dance performances, a ramp walk and a selfie session, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and joy. Senior IMA members also performed a dance, adding to the festive spirit of the occasion.
