A seven-year-old girl died after being severely injured by a kite string (manjha) while riding on a scooter with her grandfather. The string slashed her neck, leading to her death at Kotli-Khakhian village on the Phagwara-Mukandpur road on Wednesday afternoon.
The girl, identified as Harleen, along with her grandfather Satnam Singh, was heading towards Dosanjh-Kalan village on a scooter. The child, who was standing on the space between scooter handle and seat, suddenly began crying. Her grandfather stopped scooter to check on her and was shocked to find that a kite string had slashed her throat. She was first brought to Mehar Hospital, but later taken to Virk Hospital where she died due to excessive bleeding.
