769 UDIDs issued by Health Department for specially abled in Jalandhar

This was stated by Jalandhar Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Garg during a meeting of the health staff related to the Unique Disability ID (UDID) and Eye Mobile Unit, called at the his office, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, here today. He also shared that 637 cataract patients had been operated on in the district during the same period this year.
On the occasion, Dr Garg sought information from SMO Dr Gurpreet Kaur about the work being done by the UDID and Eye Mobile Unit. Dr Gurpreet said the work of making UDID cards by the Health Department was done online. She said physically challenged persons could come to the Civil Hospital’s room number 24 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and take advantage of this facility. She said the UDID card reaches beneficiary’s home within 10 to 14 days. She said after physical verification, the disabled were given unique disability certificates by the Civil Surgeon.
Dr Garg directed persons with disabilities, who applied online for the UDID, but have not visited hospital for physical verification should be followed up so that their cards could be made after assessment.
Dr Gurpreet said people above 40 years of age should get their eyes checked every six months. During the check-up, patients who had white cataract or vision was found to be less than 6/18, were operated upon free of cost by the Health Department so that the general public could be protected from blindness.
Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Jyoti Phokela, District Vaccination Officer Dr Rakesh Chopra, SMO Dr Navneet Kaur, Deputy MEIO Asim Sharma, Deputy MEIO Tarsem Lal and UDID in-charge Rajveer Kaur were also present at the meeting.
