Security personnel at the Central Jail, Kapurthala, have registered two separate cases under Section 52-A of the Prisons Act after the seizure of prohibited items during routine checks inside the facility.
According to official communication received from the jail authorities, the ward staff conducting inspection rounds in various barracks found some mobile phones concealed by the inmates.
In the first case, the internal guard unit recovered objectionable items during searches in Barrack No 2. The inmates booked include Lucky of Ludhiana district’s Kumkalan, Parghat Singh, Vikram Singh, Balwinder Singh, Amardeep Singh and an unidentified individual. All are currently lodged in the jail. Six phones were reportedly seized.
A second case was registered following another seizure of two phones from inmates Gopal Kumar and Captain Singh, alias Komal, in the same compound.
Jail authorities have forwarded both reports to the police, and the cases have been registered at Kotwali Police Station under relevant provisions of the Prisons Act. Officials stated that production warrants would be obtained to formally arrest the accused inmates.
