An 80-year-old building collapsed in Kapurthala district on Sunday morning following continuous rainfall, leading to a disruption in power supply after the debris fell on overhead electricity wires. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
The collapse took place in Mohalla Kasaban, where a local resident, Narinder Kaur, had a narrow escape. According to eyewitnesses, a few bricks fell in front of her just seconds before the entire structure came crashing down. The building had been abandoned for years, with its owners reportedly residing in Gujarat.
Following the incident, officials from the Powercom department, led by City-2 SDO Davinder Kumar Mishra, rushed to the site. Teams began clearing the rubble immediately to facilitate the restoration of electricity in the affected area.
Local residents raised concerns over the numerous dilapidated buildings scattered across Kapurthala, which they said pose a serious risk, especially during the monsoon season. They urged the administration to conduct urgent surveys and take preventive action before any untoward incidents occur.
