85 nominations filed for Block Samiti in Kapurthala
Total reaches 88; Six more filed for Zila Parishad
The process of filing nominations for the upcoming Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections in Kapurthala district continued smoothly on Wednesday, as a significant number of candidates turned up to submit their papers. A total of six nominations were filed for the Zila Parishad, while 85 nominations were submitted for the Block Samiti on Wednesday alone. With three nominations already filed earlier, the total count of nominations for the Block Samiti has now reached 88.
District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal informed that December 4 would be the last date for filing nomination papers for both the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections. He further stated that the scrutiny of the nomination papers would be conducted on December 5 (Friday). Candidates would be allowed to withdraw their nominations until December 6 (Saturday) by 3 pm, he said.
The District Election Officer said, “The polling will take place on December 14 (Sunday) from 8 am to 4 pm, using traditional ballot papers instead of electronic machines. The counting of votes will be held on December 17 (Wednesday) at designated counting centres established for this purpose across the district.”
Kapurthala district has 10 zones under the Zila Parishad, while a total of 88 zones fall under the Panchayat Samitis of Kapurthala, Phagwara, Sultanpur, Fattudhinga and Nadala. Election officials expressed satisfaction over the peaceful and organised manner in which the nomination process was being carried out, marking a crucial step toward the forthcoming rural local body elections in the district.
