In a tragic incident, 85-year-old NRI Sewa Singh, a former company manager in England, died by suicide at his ancestral home in village Bainapur near Nurmahal on Wednesday evening.

Singh, who had returned to India nearly four years ago due to deteriorating health, was living alone at the time of the incident.

According to police sources, Singh used a licensed 6.6 bore pistol to end his life, firing a single shot in his head at 7:29 PM.

The act was captured on the home’s CCTV system, which showed Singh bowing his head before a photograph in his room moments before the fatal shot.

The distressing discovery was made by Puja, a domestic worker who has been employed by the family for the past 20 years.

She arrived at the residence around 8:30 PM to prepare dinner and immediately alerted the authorities upon finding Singh’s lifeless body.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Nurmahal Krishan Gopal confirmed that the police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. A forensic team arrived at the scene around 1:30 PM the following day to collect evidence and assist in the inquiry.

Singh had been residing in a 15-marla house in the village after moving back from England. His wife, son, and daughter currently reside abroad. Puja has informed the family members and police officials stated that the last rites will be conducted only after their arrival.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s body has been sent to the Phillaur Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
