Jalandhar: A short film on female foeticide — Kuriyan te Chiriyan — was released here as a special intiative of the Health Department. The film was released by Civil Surgeon Jalandhar Dr Balwant Singh at the auditorium of the NHS Hospital here today. Informing the gathering about the film, the CS said the film was aimed at generating awareness on the PNDT Act. There is a need to change people’s mentality for girls even in this age and the film aims at encouraging a society where girls and boys are treated as equals. He said the film was also aimed to further the message of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Parahao’. Dr Raman Gupta, District Family Welfare Officer, said the film was one of the Health Department’s efforts to dispel notions regarding the birth of a girl child. Civil Surgeon office employees Sanjeev Kumar, Vinod Sharma, Inderjit Bhullar and Sarv, Namrata, Rahi, Kulbir Kaur, Kanupirya have played roles in the film directed by Vinod Sidhu. The film’s music has been directed by Rohit Sidhu. Other crew members include singer Happy Badhan, DOP Devinder Bawa, Editor Suresh Kalsi. — TNS
