Jalandhar, February 7
Government offices, including Municipal Corporation, PSPCL, Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Social Security, patwarkhana and Suwidha Centre, have been made to do with less staff since Tuesday as a majority of the employees have been deputed to conduct over 30 camps a day under “Aap Di Sarkar, Aap De Dwar”.
The situation is expected to remain similar for coming weeks as the camps would continue for almost a month as 30-33 camps have been planned to be held on a daily basis. While 32 camps were held yesterday, a total of 33 camps were held today across six sub-divisions of Jalandhar including those in Phillaur, Shahkot, Nakodar and Adampur.
While visitors at the camps benefit surely, those who are going directly to the offices somehow have to face more hurdles these days.
“Obviously, we can be in camps or offices for work. Since camps are drawing rush, we cannot go back to offices from there. There are strict directions to us to make our presence compulsory at the camps,” said an MC employee handling counters for issuance of birth and death certificates.
During a visit to the district administrative complex, staff of most of the offices was found to be away. Even SDMs and assistant commissioner-rank officers of the MC and district administration have been asked to daily monitor the working of the staff at the camps. A total of 374 applicants could get their works done at the camp.
At a camp held in Dr BR Ambedkar Bhawan in Jalandhar (West) area, AAP MLA Sheetal Angural handed over a confirmation letter of a cheque for Rs 1.45 lakh to a woman for repair of her house in Basti Mithu.
