Joginder Singh Mann, in-charge of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the Phagwara Assembly constituency, visited the government-run de-addiction centre at the local Civil Hospital today. During his visit, Mann reviewed the facilities and engaged in discussions with the medical staff and hospital officials.

Doctors present at the facility, including Dr Nikhil (Psychiatrist), Dr Rajesh Chander and Dr Ravi, informed Mann that the centre currently has a capacity of 20 beds, with 14 patients undergoing treatment. In addition to medication, the centre provides regular counselling sessions designed to strengthen the patients’ resolve to overcome addiction. The doctors highlighted the importance of mental preparedness, as patients must reintegrate into the same environment, where the risk of relapse remains high.

Mann expressed satisfaction with the hospital’s arrangements and emphasized the importance of ensuring that no patient faces difficulty in accessing primary or additional healthcare services during their recovery.

Speaking to reporters, Mann underscored the state government’s efforts to combat drug abuse. He noted that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP-led Punjab government are taking a firm stance against drug trafficking, with clear instructions given to law enforcement agencies not to show leniency towards drug peddlers.

Mann also made a direct appeal to youth struggling with substance abuse, urging them to come forward voluntarily for treatment. “The government stands firmly with those willing to quit drugs and turn their lives around,” Mann said, assuring full support for individuals seeking recovery.
