The Aam Aadmi Party has started making changes in its leadership in the Doaba region. While the party had recently appointed industrialist Nitin Kohli as the halqa incharge of the Jalandhar Central seat, it today appointed three new halqa incharges in the region.

The biggest change was in the Adampur Assembly (SC) seat where the party has re-imposed faith in Ravidasia leader and ex-MLA Pawan Tinu. The party earlier had Jit Lal Bhatti as its halqa incharge. A former banker from Bhogpur, Bhatti had emerged third in the 2022 Assembly elections after Congress’ Sukhwinder Kotli and Tinu, then from the Akali Dal. Tinu had joined AAP ahead of 2024 parliamentary polls and was the candidate of the party from the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. Tinu has been actively working in the party as its spokesperson. A prominent Dalit leader, he was last month appointed as the chairperson of the Punjab State Cooperative Agriculture Development Bank.

The party has also changed its halqa incharge in the Phagwara (SC) seat. Earlier Valmik leader and ex-minister Joginder Mann was the halqa incharge, the post has now been given to his son Harnoor Mann, more popular as Harji Mann. Junior Mann had recently become more active in the area. He is the third generation in politics as he is the grandson of ex-Union Home Minister Buta Singh.

In Kapurthala, advocate Karambir Chandi has been appointed as the new halqa incharge. He was the state joint secretary of AAP. He is the third halqa incharge of the party since 2022. The election had been contested by former judicial officer Manju Rana but she had quit the position. The party had appointed Gursharan Kapoor but he passed away a few months back. Now a lawyer and rice sheller owner Chandi, who had been actively working for the party, has been picked on the seat where Congress’ Rana Gurjeet Singh had been maintaining his position comfortably.
