With 38 wins in its kitty, as per the result of 79 seats in the MC house, the AAP has emerged as the single largest party in the civic body polls in Jalandhar. Notably, this is the very first outing of the party in the MC house. The party seems poised to have its Mayor in the MC house.

Though the AAP’s biggest gambles — a ticket to former Mayor Jagdish Raja and his wife former Deputy Mayor Anita Raja — just days ahead of the MC polls failed to pay dividends, the party was able to bag some impressive wins apart from emerging as single largest party in the civic body House.

Among the list of stalwarts, who lost from the AAP include one former Mayor, and three former Deputy Mayors.

Former Mayor Raja, who contested from Ward No. 64 and his wife Anita Raja from Ward No. 65, both lost in the elections. From Ward No. 65, BJP’s Rajiv Dhingra gained victory over the former Mayor.

Apart from this, two other former Deputy Mayors, who contested on the AAP ticket — former Deputy Mayor Harsimranjit Singh Bunty (Ward No. 50) and former Senior Deputy Mayor Kamaljit Singh Bhatia, whose wife Jaspal Kaur Bhatia contested from Ward No. 83 — also lost their respective seats.

Despite facing setbacks, the AAP bagged some big wins too which include plethora of turncoats as well as loyalists.

AAP’s Lok Sabha in-charge Ashwini Aggarwal, who contested from Ward No. 80, Amit Dhal, brother of AAP’s Jalandhar North constituency in-charge Dinesh Dhall, former Congress councillor Aruna Arora, Ward No. 72 candidate greenhorn Hitesh Grewal, son of AAP leader Chandan Grewal, couple Balbir Singh Bittu and his wife Karamjeet Kaur, were among others who won in their respective wards. A number of last minute BJP entrants to the AAP like Vaneet Dhir and Rajesh Thakur Monty also won in the polls.

Chaos was witnessed at Ward No. 42 today. Charges of bogus voting were also levelled against the AAP.

Among other major losses the AAP’s district planning board chief’s relative lost in the polls. AAP’s Cantt in-charge Rajwinder Kaur Thiara also lost elections from Ward No. 37. Despite this, the AAP bagged a major vote share in almost all the constituencies.

The AAP registered its biggest win in Ward No. 69 where its candidate Harsimran Kaur, wife of party leader Devinder Singh Ronny, won by 2,600 votes.
