Abhinav wins silver in badminton championship
Adding another feather to his cap, city-based shuttler Abhinav Thakur secured silver medal in the Senior National Team Badminton Championship 2024, held in Bengaluru recently. Representing the team of Indian Railways, Thakur displayed exceptional skill and determination throughout the tournament.
The Indian Railways team showcased dominant performances in the early rounds, defeating the Rajasthan team 3-0 in the quarterfinals and the RBI team 3-0 in the semifinals. However, their winning streak ended in the final, where they faced Karnataka and lost 1-3.
The achievement comes just two months after Thakur, also representing the Indian Railways, won the gold medal at the World Railways Badminton Championship in Poland, held from October 2-5. These back-to-back successes have further cemented Thakur’s reputation as one of the finest badminton players in the country.
Abhinav Thakur’s achievements extend beyond this year’s tournaments. A three-time consecutive state champion and the top-ranked player in Punjab, he has consistently excelled at the state, national and international level. Earlier this year, he claimed gold at the Inter-Railway Badminton Championship in Gorakhpur and the Central Zone Badminton Championship in Hyderabad.
Expressing pride in his son’s accomplishments, Sudarshan Singh, Abhinav’s father, said, “His hard work and dedication have brought him to this stage. We are proud of him for not only winning medals but also representing India on international platforms.”
