As the country celebrates its 78th Independence Day tomorrow, Jalandhar is buzzing with excitement and patriotic fervour. The city is set to host the state-level celebrations this year, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as the chief guest. He will hoist the Tricolour in a grand ceremony to be held at Guru Gobind Stadium here.
The city has embraced the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign with enthusiasm as the Tricolour flutters atop the houses, business establishments and public spaces. National flags dot prominent landmarks such as Jyoti Chowk, Skylark Chowk, Namdev Chowk and BSF Chowk.
The Central GST Commissioner Office building is illuminated in the colours of the flag, contributing to the festive atmosphere. Local businesses, including restaurants and shops, are not only decorated but are also offering special Independence Day discounts to customers.
1,000 cops deployed

Traffic curbs till 2 pm

- From 7am to 2 pm tomorrow, several key routes will be closed to traffic, with diversions at major intersections, including Samra Chowk, Geeta Mandir Chowk, Masand Chowk, Red Cross Morh, T-Point Khalsa School and Partap Pura Mor.
Educational institutions, residential welfare societies and market committees across the district are organising flag-hoisting ceremonies and special gatherings, ensuring that the spirit of Independence Day is celebrated in every corner of the city.
Given the city the honour to host the state-level function, security has been ramped up to ensure a safe and orderly celebration. Over 1,000 police personnel have been deployed, supported by 15 patrolling teams and 33 special check-points.
