The police with the help of villagers arrested one of the two accused within hours after a daring daylight shooting incident in village Bohani on Saturday morning.The accused was identified as Shameer of village Behrumpur near Phillaur.
Panic gripped the otherwise peaceful village when two masked assailants opened fire at Arun Kumar, a local dairy worker, while he was on his regular milk delivery job. The attackers, riding a motorcycle, fired multiple shots without warning, leaving the victim seriously injured. Arun sustained bullet wounds to his right hand, left leg, and back before collapsing on the roadside.
Local residents immediately rushed him to the Civil Hospital, Phagwara, where he is undergoing treatment and is stated to be out of danger.
DSP Bharat Bhushan rushed to the spot along with a police team and cordoned off the area. SSP Gaurav Toora monitored the situation and directed the deployment of multiple teams to trace and nab the culprits. Forensic experts were also called in to collect vital clues from the scene, and CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being examined.
Acting on a tip-off, police teams launched a coordinated search operation in the surrounding villages. With the help of vigilant villagers, Shameer was apprehended. His accomplice Sabi fled.
SP Gurmit Kaur Chahal said a case has been registered and efforts are on to recover the weapon used in the crime.
Police sources indicated that the motive behind the attack is still unknown, though initial inquiries suggest that the victim had no known enmity. All possible angles, including personal rivalry and mistaken identity, are being explored.
