Faced with shortage of blood, two blood donation camps have been organised by the district administration wherein 28 units of blood have been collected. While the first camp was held on Friday last, the second one was held today by the Red Cross Society.
Secretary Red Cross Society Inderdev Singh said 16 blood units were collected on Friday and 12 donors came today. The secretary said the move was aimed at ensuring sufficient availability of blood in hospitals amid Covid-19 pandemic so that patients especially suffering from chronic disease don’t face any kind of hardship for blood.
Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori mentioned that it has come to his notice that there has been a halt on blood donation camps since the pandemic has begun resulting into shortage of blood in the blood banks. He further added that patients suffering from cancer, thalassaemia, and some maternity cases require blood during the treatment, hence holding small blood donation camps would be helpful for them. He called upon people to come forward for the blood donation as a humane gesture to help distressed patients.
District Immunisation Officer Dr Rakesh Chopra said as per latest orders issued by the Union Health Ministry, the people vaccinated for Covid-19 are advised to donate blood after the completion of 14 days of each of the doses adding that the non-vaccinated people can continue with the blood donation in routine.
