Admn, police conduct joint visit to rehab centre; vow support to youth

On the eve of Guru Nanak Dev’s Parkash Purab, the district administration and police jointly visited the Government De-Addiction Centre at the Civil Hospital, Phagwara, focusing on rehabilitation, social reintegration and growing concerns over drug misuse among local youth.

The delegation was led by ADC Phagwara Dr Akshita Gupta, along with SP Phagwara Madhvi Sharma and officials from the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Phagwara.

Officers interacted directly with patients undergoing treatment and listened to the challenges they face during recovery. As a gesture of goodwill, sweets were distributed to inmates and the officers assured full cooperation from the administration while motivating them to remain committed to de-addiction.

The administration also gathered information from patients regarding drug suppliers and distribution networks active in the region, noting that such inputs are crucial for tracking peddling operations and dismantling supply chains targeting vulnerable youth.

Senior officers urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information related to drug abuse, trafficking or illegal sale of intoxicants.
