The district administration in Kapurthala has intensified relief and rehabilitation efforts in flood-affected areas, while also resuming recruitment training camps and issuing security directives around an ammunition depot.
Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said ration kits and other essential supplies are being delivered to families affected by recent floods in Sultanpur Lodhi. He noted that 410 ration kits, along with sanitary pads, candles, drinking water packs, and mosquito nets, were distributed in the villages of Lakh Waryah, Bharoana, Bheem Kadim, and Masitan.
Panchal emphasised that health teams are operating round the clock to safeguard residents and livestock, adding that the administration is committed to protecting public health as water levels recede. He further appealed to philanthropists to contribute relief materials through the district helpline number 62800-49331, with a collection point set up at the Market Committee in Sultanpur Lodhi.
In a separate development, the government has resumed free preparatory training for army, paramilitary, and Punjab Police recruitment at the C-PYTE camp in Theh Kanjla, Kapurthala.
Captain Ajit Singh, camp officer, said candidates from Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, and Gurdaspur can now access both physical and written test training.
DLSA officials visit Sutlej embankment
On the directions of Priya Sood, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary of DLSA, Dr Amandeep, along with Chief Judicial Magistrate Mahesh Kumar, visited the embankment of the Sutlej River near village Burj Tehal Das on Monday.
During the visit, they interacted with the sarpanches of Burj Tehal Das, Talwandi Sibbo and Pandrawal villages, local residents and district administration officials to assess the ground situation in the flood-affected areas.
In response to the needs raised through Para Legal Volunteer Baldev Bharti and village representatives, the officials distributed relief materials, which included 60 tarpaulins, 100 litres of diesel, 30 crates of bottled water and 10 medical kits. They emphasised that the District Legal Services Authority has formed block-level teams to provide timely assistance and relief to flood-affected regions and communities. Para Legal Volunteers Baldev Bharti and Jarnail Singh Khurd were also present on the occasion.
Medical camp organised in Phagwara village
In the wake of recent floods that left several villages waterlogged, local leaders and organisations in Phagwara have stepped forward to provide medical and relief assistance.
Improvement Trust Phagwara Chairman and Aam Aadmi Party SC Wing Doaba Zone In-charge, Jarnail Nangal, along with his team, organised a free medical camp in village Chair. Nangal highlighted that stagnant water in villages posed a high risk of disease outbreaks. “We are holding medical camps in all affected villages to ensure timely treatment. Every flood-hit family will be supported with whatever essentials they need,” he assured, adding that the Punjab government stood firmly with the victims. Doctors Amarjit Abadi and Ramesh Kumar, along with village leaders and volunteers, were also present.
Meanwhile, the Sanjha Front, a collective of local organizations, distributed ration and relief material to flood-affected families in villages Pajora and Kot Fatuhi. Former Mayor Arun Khosla, along with Manish Sood, Raman Nehra, and other members, said the aid was collected through a two-day relief camp on GT Road, Phagwara, and is now being delivered door-to-door. “This effort will continue so that no family is left without support. We are grateful to the people of Phagwara for their overwhelming response and contributions,” Khosla said. Members Shashi Kalia, Rajan Arora, Deep UAE and others were also present during the distribution.
