Advocates gherao minister’s office in Hoshiarpur

The opposition against including villages of Garhshankar in the newly formed district Sri Anandpur Sahib is increasing day by day. The office-bearers and members of the District Bar Association, Hoshiarpur, led by president Advocate PS Ghuman, gheraoed the Hoshiarpur office of Cabinet Minister Ravjot Singh and raised slogans against the government and Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Rori.

Later, a memorandum was also handed over to the personal assistant of the Cabinet Minister Pradeep Saini. Advocate Ghuman said he had no objection to making Sri Anandpur Sahib a district but he is strongly opposed to merging the areas of Hoshiarpur district with the district. He said Hoshiarpur district should not be further reduced to form a new district, but if the government wants, Rupnagar district can be named Sri Anandpur Sahib.

He said if the government does not withdraw the decision to split Hoshiarpur district, the struggle will be intensified. He said in protest against this, the District Bar Association has gone on a strike till November 24.
