After two-year stint in city, Commissioner of Police Swapan gets transferred

After nearly two-year stint in Jalandhar as DIG, Jalandhar Range, and then as Commissioner of Police (CP), IPS officer Swapan Sharma has been transferred out as DIG, Ferozepur. He has been replaced by 2006-batch IPS officer Dhanpreet Kaur, who was last posted as the IG in Ludhiana Range.
Sharma had joined as DIG, Jalandhar, in March 2023, days ahead of the plan of the Punjab Police to arrest activist Amritpal Singh, now Khadoor Sahib MP. He remained grossly involved for over two months in the case as the chase for Amritpal lasted for 37 days after he initially managed to give the police a slip at Shahkot in Jalandhar. A 2009-batch officer, Sharma had become Commissioner of Police in Jalandhar in November 2023.
Sharma’s aide Ankur Gupta, who was posted as the DCP, Law and Order with him, too got transferred out as the SSP, Ludhiana Range. Aditya, who was the DCP, headquarters, too has been shifted out as the SSP, Gurdaspur. The two posts of the DCPs are yet to be filled. Likewise, Hoshiarpur SSP Surendra Lamba has been replaced by Sandeep Kumar Malik.
