Nakodar: The Shahkot police on Sunday booked a travel agent for allegedly duping a Shahkot resident of Rs 73,000 on the pretext of sending him abroad. Lakhwindar Singh, who is investigating the case, said the suspect had been identified as Sher Singh, a resident of Bhagowal village in Gurdaspur. The investigating officer said Gurnam Singh, a resident of Employees’ Colony, Shahkot, complained to the Jalandhar (rural) SSP that he paid Rs 73,000 to Sher Singh for facilitating his migration abroad but neither the suspect sent him abroad nor returned his money. Lakhwindar said a case under Sections 406 (breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC has been registered against the suspect. OC
PSPCL employee electrocuted
Nakodar: An employee of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) was electrocuted on Saturday while attending a complaint. The Investigating Officer (IO) in the case, Indarjit Singh, said the deceased had been identified as Hardip Singh (40), a resident of Aalewali village. Malkit Singh, the father of the deceased, told the police that his son was working as a complaint attendant and was posted in the suburban division. He said he received a phone call on Saturday afternoon that Hardip came to attend a complaint at Barra Sidhpur village and was working on a transformer when he was electrocuted and was rushed to the Nakodar Civl Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The IO said the police handed over the body to his family after autopsy. A case had been registered. OC
No new case in Hoshiarpur
Hoshiarpur: No new case of Covid infection was reported in the district on Sunday. Out of 144 samples collected so far in the district, 5 were found positive, while 72 tested negative for novel coronavirus. The report of 67 samples is awaited. OC
