Speaking to mediapersons, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said Inspector Balwinder Singh Bhullar, SHO, Shahkot, led the investigation team that quickly uncovered the truth, the SSP said. The police arrested Lawnish Kumar, alias Deepu, from Rupewal village. Kumar had been working as a delivery agent for a company near Sukhjit Hospital, Nakodar, for the past one-and-a-half-month, on a salary of

Rs 10,000 per month.

He had filed a false police complaint claiming that three men in a Swift car robbed him near the Shahkot SDM Court flyover.

The SSP said during investigation, the police found that Kumar had made up the robbery story to steal company money. He was under pressure to repay a loan he took from a credit company and had other outstanding personal expenses too, the SSP said.

“Our investigation showed that no robbery took place that day. Kumar invented the story to keep the company’s money for himself,” the SSP said. The police team recovered Rs 10,000 and one bike from Kumar’s possession. A case was registered against Kumar at the Shahkot police station, the SSP added. The police also impounded Kumar’s motorcycle bearing registration number Punjab-67-D-1945 as an evidence, he said. The accused would be produced in a court to obtain his remand for recovering remaining money, he added.
