The 71st All-India Police Games commenced at PAP Grounds here on Saturday evening.
ADGP, PAP, MF Farooqui, inaugurated the games. He said over 2,600 national and international players were taking part in the games.
The teams took out a march-past. Punjab Police team players Amjot Singh, Amritpal Singh, Ranjit Singh and Davinder Singh carried the torch.
In the eight basketball matches played on the first day, CISF beat MP, ITBP overpowered Chandigarh, Kerala defeated UP, Delhi got the better of Chhatisgarh, Haryana routed Jharkhand, West Bengal beat SSB, Rajasthan defeated Karnataka and J&K got the better of Uttarakhand.
Four matches were played by the men handball teams, in which Punjab defeated Rajasthan, SSB beat Madhya Pradesh, Telangana overpowered Uttarakhand, Haryana beat Assam Rifles, ITBP defeated Chhatisgarh, and BSF beat J&K.
In women handball matches, Haryana beat Tamil Nadu, Punjab beat Rajasthan and SSB beat Chhatisgarh.
The women table tennis team of Intelligence Bureau beat RPF. In table tennis for men, CRPF beat RPF, Mizoram beat Tamil Nadu, Manipur beat RPF and Tamil Nadu beat Gujarat.
Officials from the PAP including Naresh Dogra, AIG Mandeep Singh, Commandant Harmanbir Gill, ex-DGP Mahal Singh Bhullar, Padamshree wresler Kartar Singh, Olympian and retired IPS Surinder Singh Sodhi and retired SSP Dilbagh Singh were among those present.
