The proceedings of the first Budget meeting of the Municipal Corporation, Phagwara, was ended by Mayor Ram Paul Uppal only in nine minutes amid uproar here today.
Though Deputy Mayor Vicky Sood (AAP councillor) saw Uppal, Senior Deputy Mayor Tej Pal Basra, MC Commissioner Akshita Gupta and Assistant Commissioner Anish Bansal sitting in the hall but could not found any chair for him, he felt humiliated and went out of the hall immediate after signing in the register without participating in the meeting.
The situation became typical when Bansal started to read the resolutions of Rs 4762.10 lakh Budget for 2025-26, Congress councillor Sanjeev Bugga objected and raised his voice asking him to tell about the proceedings of the last meeting which could not be passed by the House.
Bugga even alleged that a huge amount of Rs 1.40 crore had been allotted for Mayor and Deputy Mayors. But poor workers were being ignored. Mayor Uppal along with the officers left the venue, leaving the Opposition councillors in hue and cry.
MC Commissioner Akshita Gupta said all norms were adopted in the meeting.
Meanwhile, it was reliably learnt that the MC Phagwara could earn only Rs 3,929 lakh till now during 2024-25 while the target was fixed for Rs 4628 lakh.
