Apneet Riyait assumed charge as the 145th Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) here on Monday. This is her second posting as the DC. Earlier, she was posted in Mansa. A native of Phagwara, Apneet completed her graduation from Jalandhar and pursued masters in political studies and MPhil from the JNU. A 2011-batch IAS officer, she has served as Jagraon SDM, ADC (General) and ADC (Development) at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and Ludhiana.

Apneet said: “I am happy to be posted in Hoshiarpur. I will strive to make the district healthy and drug-free.”

She chaired a district-level meeting with officials of various departments.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
