AWWA Day was celebrated on Friday at Jalandhar Cantonment to commemorate the 58th anniversary of Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), an NGO working towards the empowerment of families of soldiers since 1966.
This year, the theme of AWWA Week was ‘Year of technology absorption’ relating to ‘women empowerment’. All the activities organised during the week were based on this theme.
The activities of AWWA Day commemoration commenced from August 17 onward. The festive week was the culmination of all the projects and welfare programmes which were planned and held during the year. Activities conducted included various competitions and lectures on contemporary issues such as women’s rights, entrepreneurial opportunities etc by experts in their respective fields. The 65 Veer Naris were felicitated on the occasion. Grievance Redressal Cells were organised to resolve issues being faced alongside a medical camp for early identification and intervention of ailments. Chairperson, FWO, 91 Sub Area, Reena Saul, interacted with and felicitated the Veer Naris.
