The Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Kulwinder Singh, posted at Kapurthala, for accepting a bribe of Rs 3,500 and demanding an additional Rs 10,000.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB stated that the police official had been arrested following an online complaint lodged by a resident of Kapurthala on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line.

The spokesperson further added that the complainant had informed the VB that he had got registered a police case at the police station. ASI Kulwinder Singh, investigating officer, had demanded a bribe for submitting the chargesheet in the court. The accused had also contacted the complainant via mobile phone, instructing him to pay the amount to proceed with the chargesheet submission.

During investigation, the allegations were substantiated, confirming that the ASI had already taken Rs 3,500 and was demanding an additional Rs 10,000. Following this, he had been arrested and a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him at the VB Police Station, Jalandhar Range. Further investigation into the case is underway, he added.
