Asian Games gold-winning former shot putter Bahadur Singh Sagoo was on Tuesday elected unopposed as the Athletics Federation of India’s president.

The 51-year-old Sagoo, who was earlier serving as Sports Secretary at PAP, Jalandhar, is now posted as the Commandant, 4th IRB in Pathankot.

He had won a shot put gold in the 2002 Busan Asian Games and also took part in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics.

His posting as the president of the Federation has brought happiness among his well-wishers who are fans of his calmness, and appreciate him for his friendly nature.

Javeline throw coach at Jalandhar Sports College Baba Gurdeep Singh, who remained Bahadur Singh’s classmate in Sai Dass School, said, “Singh is a man without any ego and negative attitude. He is famous because of his loving nature. Singh started his sports journey at the school ground and then we both went to DAV College together.”
