Jalandhar, February 13
The Jalandhar Police Commissionerate has arrested a person for cheating people by swapping their ATM cards and withdrawing money from their accounts. The police also recovered 22 ATM cards of various banks from his possession.
Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said the police got a tip-off that a person was cheating people by swapping their ATM cards and withdrawing money from their accounts. The police started investigations into the matter and arrested the suspect from near the Pathankot chowk here. The suspect had been identified as Deepak Kumar from Lamba Pind.
The CP said during investigation, it came to fore that Deepak was allegedly involved in multiple frauds. He swapped ATM cards of people and withdrew money from their account.
Swapan Sharma said the police recovered 22 ATMs of various banks, including four each of SBI and HDFC, three of Central Bank of India, two each of Bank of Baroda and Axis Bank, one each of Union Bank, PNB, Canara Bank, IFFC Bank, ICICI, Kotak Mahindra Bank and IBDI Bank, from his possession.
He said a case under Sections 379, 420 and 411 of the IPC had been registered against the suspects at the Division No. 8 police station. The suspect had a criminal past as three cases of theft and fraud and one DDR were already registered against the suspect.
