ATM loot case: Cops yet to nab suspects
Phagwara, July 7
Even after 40 hours of the looting of cash worth lakhs at a SBI ATM on Palahi road, the police could not nab the robbers. The suspects cut open the ATM with a gas cutter and fled away with the cash after midnight on Friday.
It was observed that police officials were on toes, busy providing security cover to Chief Minister Bhagwant Maan due to bypolls in Jalandhar.
The Tribune has learnt that neither bank officers nor the security agency engaged in loading cash in ATMs could come forward to lodge an FIR.
However, after receiving information from Puneet Kumar, a resident of Master Sadhu Ram Nagar (Phagwara), the police have registered a case.
Despite repeated attempts, none of the cops, including Phagwara SSP and SP, could be contacted for details regarding the case.
It was learnt that the police have identified one of the accused as Amrik Singh, resident of Sohal village near Kheeree district (UP). The police have checked the CCTV cameras installed in surrounding localities and found a suspicious car.
The police have taken an accused in custody in this case, but nothing has been officially declared.
