Audi car crash accused arrested

The key accused in the Audi car crash, which happened in Jalandhar on the night of January 30, has been arrested by the Jalandhar police. Identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Batala, he is a Punjab Police employee who was posted at PAP Jalandhar.
The white Audi car (CH 01-AP-9952) which he was driving, hit an e-rickshaw near the Vidhipur crossing on the Jalandhar-Amritsar highway, killing four people – two on the spot and two others during treatment.
There is only a single survivor of the accident, who is under treatment at the civil hospital in Jalandhar.
SHO Maqsudan police station Sikander Singh, said, “The accused Gurpreet Singh is a police employee, resident of Batala, who was posted at PAP Jalandhar. He was going back to Batala on the night of the incident, when the accident happened.”
Police informed that the accused was arrested last night and was presented in court today after which he has been sent to judicial custody at the Kapurthala jail.
An FIR was registered at the Maqsudan police station against the car driver under Sections 304, 338, 427 and 279 of the Indian Penal Code.
The deceased were identified as Jagdish Chander, resident of Kahlwan village; Paramjit Singh Pamma, Harpreet Happy and Pankaj.
The families of the deceased have expressed satisfaction with the arrest of the accused. While families were so far refusing to cremate the deceased awaiting action, they have now agreed to carry out the last rites of the deceased. Two of the deceased may be cremated today while remaining families will carry out last rites tomorrow.
Post mortem reports of the deceased persons has also been conducted.
Kulwinder Singh, the wife of e-rickshaw driver Jagdish Chander, who died in the accident said, “We are relieved that the culprit has finally been caught. My husband was the sole bread winner of our family, and the accident has ruined our household. The responsibility to bring up our 11 year old son is entirely on me. He was recently admitted to a good school but I don’t know how we will sustain the fee now. We also appeal to the government to extend monetary help to us.”
