Authorities intensify efforts to combat vector-borne diseases in Phagwara

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Anupam Kaler held a meeting with officials from the Health Department and MC to review the arrangements made to combat dengue, diarrhoea, and other vector-borne diseases. The authorities are taking all necessary measures to prevent these diseases in Phagwara.

She said all necessary medications were available and swift action was being taken on the lone dengue case reported in the sub-division. Kaler directed the SMOs to coordinate with private hospital doctors to ensure immediate contact with the administration if any new cases arise. She highlighted the ongoing door-to-door inspections in the city, with teams spraying insecticides wherever larvae were found and fines were issued for non-compliance. Additionally, the MC is prioritising city’s development by installing 1,500 new LED streetlights in the coming days.

Work on water supply and sewage systems is underway, amounting to over Rs 1 crore, and four new tubewells have also been installed to enhance the city’s water supply.

The meeting was attended by MC Joint Commissioner Kulpreet Singh, Superintending Engineer Rajinder Chopra, Chief Sanitary Inspector Ajay Kumar, SMO Dr Lehimber Ram, and SMO Dr Mandeep Kaur from ESI Hospital, along with Health Department Inspector.
