Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal on Friday handed over relief cheques of Rs 51,000 each to four flood-affected families of Mandala Chhanna village in Shahkot subdivision for the damage caused to their houses.

They also reviewed the ongoing work for strengthening the embankment at the village.

Seechewal said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stood firmly with the affected families in this difficult time and was working day and night to extend all possible help. He mentioned that a special girdawari had already been conducted in the affected areas to assess the losses and compensation would soon be provided for damage caused to crops, property, livestock, etc.

The two also distributed tents, tarpaulins, ration, medical kits, blankets and other essential items to the affected families. On this occasion, they also listened to the grievances of the residents and assured them that their problems would be resolved at the earliest.
