Auto drivers to don uniform with nameplate

In an effort to enhance traffic management and ensure public safety, Commissionerate Police, Jalandhar, convened a meeting with the city’s auto union leaders. The meeting, held at the office of the Police Commissioner, was chaired by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma and attended by Amandeep Kaur, ADCP, Traffic, along with all zone in-charges of the traffic police.
The meeting addressed pressing traffic issues linked to autorickshaws in the city, resulting in a series of pivotal decisions aimed at improving the overall traffic system.
A committee for auto drivers will be set up under the supervision of the district administration to streamline operations and ensure compliance with regulations. Possessing a valid driving licence will be made compulsory for all drivers, enhancing accountability and road safety.
All auto drivers will also be required to undergo police verification, a move aimed at bolstering security and trust in public transportation. To improve transparency, a unique QR code containing vital information about the driver and autorickshaw will be affixed to each vehicle.
Moreover, uniforms with nameplates will be made mandatory to professionalise the appearance of auto drivers.
Swapan Sharma emphasised the importance of these measures, stating that these were critical steps towards addressing traffic congestion and ensuring the safety of both drivers and passengers. The new policies are expected to significantly improve the traffic scenario, making the city’s roads safer.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on the necessity of these initiatives, with auto union leaders expressing their cooperation and commitment to the new regulations.
