Demonstrating collective resolve against the growing menace of drug abuse, the city witnessed an overwhelming public response to the ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ (War Against Drugs) awareness march organised under the aegis of the Government of Punjab’s flagship anti-drug campaign.

Undeterred by the soaring temperature, residents turned out in significant numbers to walk shoulder to shoulder with students, civil society members and officials in the roughly 3-km march. The initiative was spearheaded by the Phagwara sub-divisional administration under the chairmanship of SDM Jashan Jeet Singh. The event was held under the patronage of Lok Sabha member Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal and supported by various local

political leaders.

The march, which passed through the city’s main market areas, aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and encouraging collective community action against narcotics. Approximately 500 students, including National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets, participated actively in the march, carrying placards and chanting slogans to spread the message of a drug-free society.

In a compelling display of youth engagement, students from Ramgarhia College presented a street play addressing the perils of drug addiction.

Senior police officials including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bharat Bhushan, city Station House Officer (SHO) Gaurav Dhir and Traffic Inspector Aman Kumar Daveshwar were present to support the event and ensure smooth coordination and security throughout the procession. Emergency services including ambulance support were on standby as a precautionary measure.

To ensure the well-being of the participants, the administration arranged refreshments, serving milk and sandwiches to help participants cope with the intense heat.
