Awareness walkathon held on World AIDS Day in Hoshiarpur

On the occasion of World AIDS Day, the District Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Society organised an awareness walkathon from Government Smart Senior Secondary School (Co-Ed) Ghantaghar to the bus stand. MLA Bram Shankar Jimpa flagged off the event. Students, teachers, social workers, and citizens enthusiastically participated in the walkathon.

Earlier, an AIDS awareness seminar was held at Government School Ghantaghar. Experts shared information related to HIV/AIDS and discussed preventive measures in detail. On this occasion, MLA Bram Shankar Jimpa said that it is extremely important to spread awareness in society about the serious disease like AIDS. He added that prevention of this disease is possible only by providing correct information and education to the youth. He praised the efforts of the District Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Society and said that such programs play a vital role in creating a healthy and aware society.

MLA Jimpa said that only the government and society can face this challenge together. He appealed to the youth to stay away from drugs and adopt a healthy lifestyle. He also called on teachers and parents to fulfill their responsibilities so that the new generation can be safe and aware. He said that awareness is the most powerful weapon that can protect society from diseases like AIDS.

Dr Simran Saini, Psychiatrist at the Center for Psychiatry, Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur, also addressed the program and emphasized the need to dispel misconceptions related to AIDS. She said that correct information and sensitization are the most important tools to fight this disease.

On this occasion, the crowd pledged to contribute to spreading awareness in society and making India AIDS-free. Dr Jasleen Kaur, Medical Officer Incharge, District De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, Prashant Adia Counsellor, Sandeep Kumari Psychologist, Parminder Kaur Counsellor, HHO Kiran Singh, Karun Sharma Principal Government Smart Senior Secondary School (Co-Ed) Ghantaghar, Varinder Vaidya were also present.
