Badminton association honours veteran shuttler Manohar Lal Mago

As the four-day district-level tournament organised by the District Badminton Association (DBA) at Raizada Hansraj Stadium concluded on Sunday, it chose to honour former international player Manohar Lal Mago. He was presented a plaque and a shawl by Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal. As many as 600 players had participated in 35 competitions wherein prizes were distributed by the DC and Jalandhar Division Head of Indian Oil, Rajan Berry. For the first time in the 50-year history of DBA, cash prizes worth Rs 5 lakh were given to the winners.
In U-19 boys’ singles, Danish Bhanot won gold while Divyam Sachdeva finished second. In U-19 mixed doubles, cousins Achyut Sharma and Akshita Sharma won gold. In U-17 girls’ doubles, Manya Ratti and Sania won gold while Janya Kochhar and Tanishka Chauhan won silver. In U-17 boys’ singles, Viren Seth got gold and Danish Bhanot got silver. In U-15 boys’ singles, Viren Seth got gold and Zorawar Singh got silver. In U-13 boys’ singles, Dipansh Kundra got gold and Zorawar S Lubana got silver. In U-11 boys’ singles, Agamjot got gold while Japmanjot S Dhami got silver. In U-11 girls’ singles, Hargun Kaur was the winner and Varanya Soni was the runners-up.
Chairman of the interim committee of Association and SDM Dr Jai Inder Singh, treasurer Palwinder Juneja, Rakesh Khanna, Mukul Verma, Aman Mittal, Ravneet Takhar, Kusum KP, Naresh Budhia and Dheeraj Sharma were present.
